Our Stone Cottage visit.

Yesterday morning we went to visit the stone cottage. We had to leave at ten o’clock. Luckily we were close to it. We walked excitedly to the gate and crossed the road to get there. When we got there we got introduced to some people and their names were Terry, Patrick and Josephine. They were amazing because they know so much about who lived in the cottage and where it used to be. Patrick is a historian and he said that the cottage used to be where McDonald’s is now in Mt Wellington. When they moved it to Panmure, they had to build it stone by stone.

When we came inside and entered our first room it was called the parlour. It was beautiful. Terry told us about the stuff in there. When I first came in I saw the original model of St Matthias church. After that we went to the next room. Terry said In the olden days the men really liked their moustaches and to drink lots of tea. They wanted the tea to not get on their moustaches, so they used a special cup called moustache cup. If they grew a beard they used a shaving bowl with a brush.

After that we went to the kitchen and there was a table and a fireplace there.Terry said they used a bellow to make a fire. Then we saw a picture frame of soldiers with moustaches. Then we saw a baby doll in a baby high chair. Then Terry showed us a tool that can make baby food.

After that we went upstairs. When I looked at the stairs it looked scary. It was high. We went upstairs to enter our 4th room. When we entered the room we saw old objects. I asked Patrick If he’d bought them but he said they were all donated. It was fun. After that we went back downstairs and went outside and took a photo and went back to school. I learned a lot from our visit

My Cycling Experience

On Monday morning Bigfoot Adventures came to our class. Their names were Kate and Kyla. When they came into our class they told us what to wear and the rules to follow when we are on the road riding our bikes. Kate told us to wear light and bright clothes and to wear shorts but if you wear long pants just roll your pants up or just tuck it in your socks if you have long socks.

After that we went outside. We had to grab a helmet and line up along the fence. We had to line up from the shortest to the tallest. Kyla told us what the A,B,C,D,Q check means when checking our bikes for safety. A means Air test, B means Brake test, C is Control and chain test, D means drop test, and Q means quick release test. After that we went to get the bikes. The shortest children got the smaller bikes.

The more confident children had to go onto the top court with Kyla and the least confident had to go under the canopy with Kate. My favourite activity was when we played a game called “The last person wins.” We had to go very very slowly. And I kept winning because I am good at balancing for a long time.

When it was the end of cycling I was sad because I still wanted to bike and I liked it so much. I wish they could come back again so I can learn other bike skills.  That day was the best one because I learned so much.
